Hydraulic Design Engineer

Hydraulic Design Engineer

Our client provides services focused on the offshore handling systems. For their team in Glasgow we are ... seeking a Hydraulic Design Engineer.

Brief scope of responsibilities
• Prepare hydraulic circuits and specifications for hydraulic equipment
• Cooperation with Mechanical and Electrical Engineers to develop operational and control philosophy
• Ensure all engineering activities are completed in compliance with applicable design requirements
• Liaise with Third Party Inspection Authorities
• Ensure products are manufactured in accordance with all client and in-house quality requirements
• Support workshop during equipment assembly and testing
• Occasional site installation, commissioning and testing support

This will be a client facing role.

Requirements
We would like to hear from candidates with solid design experience mixed with site / installation exposure.

• Ideally degree qualified, in an engineering discipline
• Good grounding in design and development of hydraulic systems
• Design of hydraulically actuated equipment and design of Hydraulic Power Units
• Knowledge of modern design drawing techniques, competence in the use of Solid works would be preferred.
• Problem solving and innovation
• Commercial understanding and experience of projects planning/management

This will be a contract role, with a view of becoming permanent.

Our client is a widely respected Architectural Private Practice with offices in ... the Middle East, South East Asia and London; the London office being ideally located only 10 minutes’ walk from Covent Garden.

Due to continued expansion, project wins and collaborations with hugely reputable partners, our client wishes to expand the team by inviting Architectural Technologists to join the London office.

The successful individual will be responsible for implementing the project plan and ensuring all items of project deliverables are delivered on time together with supporting the technical team in monitoring design and construction documentation and maintain technical excellence on all projects.

Responsibilities will include:
• Design Development
o Aiding the technical team with all aspects of design development.
o Supporting the design development of projects from concept to completion.
o Providing support for all local authority compliance and code compliance.
o Utilising correct design standards i.e. BS etc.
o Supporting all technical detailing of the project
o Meeting the brief from an operational and functional perspective.
o Supporting coordination with all sub consultant packages.
o Assisting on all drawing packages to ensure full coordination and technical excellence is achieved prior to issue.
o Researching suitable materials and construction systems in line with the architectural design intent to inform the documentation.
• Documentation
o Adhering to company standards; ensuring all documentation is as per company handbook
o Ensuring all documentation is as per local codes and regulations.
o Completing timesheets by the close of business at the end of the working week ensuring the information is specific to both the project and project stage.
• Quality Assurance
o Ensuring Job Captains agreed deadlines for documentation issue are met.
o Ensuring all work is delivered to the correct standard and on time.
o Assisting the Job Captain with the local authority submissions in accordance with the relevant local authority requirements.
o Be proactive and suggest improvements or amendments required to the systems.
o Providing technical excellence on projects
• Technical
o Sharing knowledge of construction detailing.
o Researching different supplier’s details.
o Ensuring knowledge of materials and systems are up to date and expanded on a project to project basis.
o Demonstrating knowledge and appreciation of the scope of works for the whole range of sub consultants. I.e. HVAC systems, lighting level coordination, acoustical requirements.
o Demonstrating knowledge of Client/ Operators procedures and standards to enable the compliance of design.
o Ensuring sub-consultants requirements are adequately incorporated in drawing packages.
o Assuming responsibility for developing a specialist interest. For example, sustainable design, roof detailing, timber specifying, paint specifying etc.
o Ensuring adequate knowledge of specifications in order to correctly annotate drawings.
o Ensuring adequate English to ensure correct spelling and grammar on all documentation.
• Management
o Managing own time and assist colleagues and senior staff when time allows; notifying the relevant Job Captain as soon this deadline is not going to be met.
o Highlighting potential coordination/technical issues to the Job Captain at the earliest possible stage.
o Providing overview/support of technical input on packages
o Providing overview/support of technical input on the BIM models

Applicants will have knowledge of building permit procedures and an in-depth detailed knowledge of local codes and regulations. CIAT registration is preferred however those with a Degree in Architecture or Architectural Technology and 3 years’ experience in Architectural Practice will be considered.
